Swimming & Aquatics

All aquatic facilities are currently closed while the leisure pool undergoes re-construction. We are anticipating the project will be complete by November 2020, although we cannot confirm a reopening date at this time.  Limited registered use for lap swimming, family swims and fitness classes will resume as soon as possible.  Swim lessons will likely resume in Jan 2021. Stay tuned for further updates.

Come enjoy the many benefits of swimming at the Powell River Recreation Complex.

For over 42 years, the Powell River Recreation Complex has been providing fun and exciting swimming opportunities for the community.  Whether you are learning to swim for the first time, would like to train to become a lifeguard, or are simply looking for ways to improve your backstroke, we have a program for you.

Kids Swim Lessons

Lessons for the littlest start at just 4 months of age! The first three levels of the Red Cross Swim Preschool program are for children under the age of 3 years old with their parents/caregivers; ages 3-6 years can join small class sized lessons with an instructor where toddlers master skills before moving through the 5 additional levels.  When kids are 6 years old, they can progress through the 10 level Red Cross Swim Kids program. Click here to browse our swim lesson options.

We also offer private and semi private lessons – contact the pool supervisor or head lifeguard for booking.

Adult Swimming & Boating Safety

Whether you are learning to float, training for long distance swimming, or practicing your paddling skills, we have you covered.  Registered programs include an introduction to swimming and technical clinics.  Masters swimming for fitness is now a drop-in class.  If you are up to swimming a couple kilometres in an hour, join in with us free as part of your membership, or with your paid drop-in admission.  Watch for seasonal boat safety courses and Sunday kayak sessions for you to practice your skills in a safe & warm environment.  Click here to register for kayak sessions.  Or view our Active Living Guide for more information.

Drop in Water Fitness Classes

Drop in classes consist of both Shallow and Deep water options.  Our shallow water Aquacise classes are designed for those people who may not necessarily be swimmers but are looking to use water as resistance to improve muscle tone, strength and mobility.  Buoyancy belts are provided by the complex for participants in our deep water Run and Core classes, where physical strength and cardiovascular fitness can be increased while joint stress is greatly reduced.

Classes are scheduled in the morning, afternoon, evenings and weekends.  View our drop in schedule to see when classes are scheduled and see our Active Living Guide for more details about the various classes.

Registered Water Fitness Classes

Each season we offer a variety of specialized water fitness programs, such as Aqua Yoga, Water Wellness and Deep Fit, that provide a great core workout as you stabilize yourself while performing various exercises.  Our designated instructors will lead you through a variety of exercises over a specified number of weeks to help you develop good posture, good habits and proper movement within the water environment.  These classes are limited in space so register early to reserve your spot today.

Aquatic Leadership & First Aid Training

Learn lifesaving skills that will last a lifetime through the Bronze Medal Program.  Whether for personal interest or to become a lifeguard, the Bronze Medal awards provide important water safety messages and develop proficiency in lifesaving, resuscitation and water rescue.  Thinking about working in aquatics?  All the courses you need to become a certified National Lifeguard and Red Cross swimming instructor are offered here seasonally, as advertised in our Active Living Guide.

Public Swimming

Kids just want to have fun!  Our Everyone Welcome swims feature our Zunga rope swing, 1 metre diving board, and gallons of fun (lap lanes are not available during these swims).  Kids can challenge their balance on the large inflatable sea snake or water walkway on Friday nights and on selected Saturdays.

Our Multi-use swims will offer a minimum of 1-2 lap lanes plus room for kids to play while various programs are running.  If your schedule is wide open and you are looking for a more quieter time to swim some laps or lounge in the leisure pool, then visit us weekday afternoons between 2-4pm (on school days).  Click here for full schedule details.
