Move For Health Virtual Challenge

In place of our Move for Health Day 5km Fun Run/Walk, we have developed the Move for Health Virtual Challenge for 2020.  This challenge will engage community members in an ongoing run/walk across Canada beginning May 2, 2020. Community members can sign up on the World Walking website at www.worldwalking.org and join the Move for Health Virtual Challenge group. Under the group you will see our walk/run across Canada. All you need to do is get moving and track how many steps or km you move in a day then add them to the Canada walk and watch as we collectively move across Canada. For convenience on your phone, the World Walking App is also available in the Apple store and on Google Play. The virtual challenge is to inspire and motivate community members to work together and keep moving during these difficult times!  All participants who join our walk will be entered to win a 3 Month Pass for use at the Recreation Complex once we reopen.  Let’s have some fun and get walking together with this virtual challenge!

First, you will need to create a FREE account and join our group!

Step 1:

Visit the website www.worldwalking.org, and create an account by clicking “Join for Free”.  You will see it on the top right of the page.  If you don’t want to use a PC, you can also choose to download the World Walking APP from the Apple Store or Google Play, and set up an account from the APP.

Step 2:

Once your account is created, join our group “Move for Health Virtual Challenge“.

Step 3:

Now you are a part of our group, you will see our walk “Walk across Canada with us“.  Join our walk to be take part in the challenge.

Step 4:

Encourage your friends and family to join the challenge!

 

You’ve made an account and joined our group – now what?

  • Explore your account, and you will see “your bank”.  This is where all your hard work will be logged.  You can set your account to track by steps, kilometres, or miles.  Pick whatever works best for how you will track your walks or runs.  You can add steps to your bank after you complete a walk or run.
  • To add steps to our walk, you select “spend steps” from your bank while you are in your account.  Alternatively, you can go to our group, select our walk, and then select “spend steps”.
  • Try to remember after each walk or run to log in and record your steps.  Once they are recorded, you can add as many steps/km/miles to the walk at a time as you like.
  • Have fun with it and let’s see how long it will take us to get across Canada!
